Confessions of a Serial Interviewer by Steven Ra Ga

Hello my Neighbours, I am Steven Ra Ga and I have a confession. I am a Serial Interviewer, and I want to share some of my stories with you. “today I went on an interview at an AC company and the room was boiling and I sweat through my clothes, should I be concerned?”

May 4th 12pm – Industrial Park in a Canadian City, I am scheduled to meet with Andrew a Sales Manager of an HVAC company for the position of a Comfort Advisor (Salesperson). 11:45am I drive up the location, park, give myself the topical Pepe talk, “Steven” my inner thoughts being to speak. “Steven, you are tall, handsome and people like you, you are a great salesperson and they will be foolish not to hire you.” I tell myself. I then take a couple of breathes a swig of my water, then exit my car. I walk up the front door and enter.

“Hi, I am Steven I have an interview with Andrew for 12pm.” The lady behind the desk smiles and points to Andrew.

“Hi, Steven I am Andrew” he says. We shake hands and I am directed to sit in his office. He then asks if I want a glass of water, “sure” I say. He comes back with a Tim Hortons cup filled with water. Andrew begins to explain away why it’s a Tim Hortons cup, I promptly ask if he won, (Tim Hortons often has prizes to win) he stated no and that the cup was from larger batch of coffee that was ordered.

Andrew then starts to explain the job, his sales career, he goes line by line through my resume and the interview is well underway. Everything seems to be going well though I could start to feel myself sticking to the chair. Like I do sweat a lot on average but this was getting silly, I observed Andrew and noticed his skin was shiny maybe he was sweating too.

As we got closer to the end of the interview, he explained it 100% commission position, selling mostly AirConditioning Units. Cool no problems there. But I had to say something so I blurted out, it “sure is hot in here”, Andrew looked at me and said “Yah, our offices do get hot on occasion”. Now I am not sure if you caught that I am interviewing to sell AirConditioning units and the very company and office isn’t properly setup for climate control… Anyway he stated he would be in contact after other he meets with more candidates. I will keep you posted on the second interview.
