Confessions of a Serial Interviewer by Steven Ra Ga
At first I didn’t get it. I struggled to understand the kind of interview this one took on, it was after my time in photocopy sales I got an interview for an account manager at a local tech giant.
I had 5 interviews in one day, the last part they wanted me to meet my team, 7 people in a room with me, I recall being confused by the whole process as it was new to me, but they were trying to gage if they liked me as a person. This didn’t work out well, not only was I not the type of person to be friends with them, we were just on different frequencies when it came to everything. Needless to say I didn’t get the job, but only later understood their mindsets what I watched TV shows such as silicone valley.
You see I used to be like these people, all shy and timid, until grade 5 when I transfer schools, I recall hanging out with some geeky /nerdy types and we always got picked on by the school bullies and I recall saying to myself I didn’t want to be like that anymore, even though it was most likely the better path I wanted power so within a few weeks I worked my way into the group of bad kids and developed a new form of confidence, how to take an even worse beating then before lol. But since that time period, I went on to learn how to take a hit and not be afraid to fail. This gave me a new perspective on life but it also alienated me from the kid I once was.
