Confessions of a Serial Interviewer by Steven Ra Ga
Years ago I got hired as an overnight shelf stocker at BIG BOX MART and it was my job to go to work at 9pm and work until 6am stocking the shelves with products.
It wasn’t the easiest job in the world, usually around 4am you would get a second wind and sleeping became impossible when you got home. I would take sleeping pills to help me out, sure I could sleep but I was still tried when I woke up. I lasted about a week or two before quitting.
One time I fell while carrying a case of soup, I had stepped on the pallet/jack that wasn’t locked and it rolled under my feet, I fell dropping the case of soup, smash that shit rolled every which direction.
The other pain of my existence was that they had their own radio station and it would play over the speakers.
I recall one of the guys I worked with was some kind of Lebanese gangster, he looked like a guy out of a rap music video.
And our manager had one arm and could put shine all of us.
What a crazy time in my life.
…
Years later I had to do graveyard shifts for my different work positions.
One year in 2019 I was doing a graveyard shift with a friend and got an Arc Flash after inserting a knife into a live socket. Stupid I know. But you will dumb things when you are tired.
