Confessions of a Serial Interviewer by Steven Ra Ga
So I won’t have anymore stories from my life to report on when it comes to interviews as I have a new job and basically spilled the beans on all the interviews that stood out in my mind.
With this new gig I am back to cold calling. It reminds me of my 1st real gig beige the economic crash of 2008.
We are basically riding the coat tails of the next and current economic crash of 2022.
Every where you look the news is nothing but “it’s coming, just not yet.” Sounds like a case of “coke cock” too much blow and you think you are about to cum… but don’t.
Not that I would know just from the stories I have heard.
By the way thank for the support I see my stories have gotten over 100 views and 13 followers.
So I spent today cold calling, basically walking into establishments, introducing myself and collecting cards of the manager who signs off on what I sell to come call back to try an book an appointment to sell them my services. But in reality most often you can only sell to those who are ready to buy.
And some, in rare moments will just straight up kick you out of the building. That happened today at a pub, this lady tried to scare me off but I was taught to ask questions and surprisingly through pride she told me a lot of info I could work with.
You see some people think if they just say “not today” or “the manager isn’t here” people will just say in response “Okay I will see myself out” but that’s not a good sales man. My job is to ask why, tell me more, and ask more questions.
This place I went was like “Um, yes I am the manager and not today.” My response “Not today? Like you are not interested or like the person that signs off isn’t here?” Her response was (fumbling of course) “oh, the person who makes those decisions isn’t here, we have multiple locations.” I was about to dive in more when someone else came up be hind me and said “we can take a card and pass it along” I got the hint not only were they not going to help me out they seemed a bit hostile.
Sales is a weird profession, there are those of us that go outside to catch our dinner and they’re are those that wait for someone to shit gold in their hand, with extensive marketing.
It doesn’t always work that way.
Most often you have to go out and find it. And there is no shame in it, you don’t have to be rude to a person just asking questions, it’s not like I am from India and calling you a dinner time.
Like you wanna buy today? Great let’s go, or you don’t want to buy, that’s okay, consider me when you are ready to buy.
I could care less, every No is one step closer to a yes, it’s the law of numbers, like asking a girl on a date when you are single, should May strike out often, but every now and then you get a girlfriend or an adventure.
How sad and unappealing would it be to win every time, eventually you would get bored and need a challenge. But if every day is a challenge then you are never satisfied and always hungry.
Yah so it was 30 Celsius today, and I walked in cowboy boots and jeans for a couple of hours straight must have got like 15,000 steps in before lunch and 3,000 after lunch.
I was moving so much I actually ran into other competitors in the field, standing right behind them inline for a pizza.
Tomorrow I am gonna try my luck in the smaller towns see if that’s any good. Away from the action.
